I am very happy with this deal, Weight is a 4 time all star and waived his no trade clause to come to Carolina because he believes The Hurricanes offer him the best chance to win a Stanley Cup.... Now that is a sign of the new. A good friend of mine is St. Louis Blues Fan.. He is happy to be watching Weight here but disappointed that his St. Louis Blues are losing him... The Best Team in Hockey, Carolina Hurricanes are tonight honoring Ron Francis. This a well deserved honor for an quality hockey player, and a quality person. One thing I will never forget is Ron Francis during the playoffs against the NJ Devils, being hammered by Stevens,( you remember those days, man he was vicious) and the Canes were on a Power play and Ron Crawling to the bench clearly dazed but didnt want to stop play since the canes were on the attack. Now that is one tough team oriented guy. The Hurricanes are are on the way to the stanley cup and the red wings were in the road... and they were run over. Alot of People thought I was crazy when I predicted a Stanley Cup for the Carolina Hurricanes. Let's Look at the Facts: Carolina Hurricanes are : 28-10-4 and have 60 Points 1st in the Southeast 3rd in the Eastern Conference (2pts out of 1st) and there is not a team out there the Hurricanes can't beat. -Beating almost every team of note along the way, including the victory over the Red Wings Last night. Why are the Canes so good this year? Eric Staal tearing it up this year, New Faces like Stillman, Whitney, Cullen, Tverdoskvy, Gerber, Ward, have definately been a bonus. Even the youngsters like Ladd, and Larose, have been contributing this year. The Old Stalwarts playing well like they always have, Brind'amour, Cole, Aaron Ward, Adams and Adams,Wesley. The New Rules have definately helped, New rules that allow hockey to be actually played... Don't get me wrong I love the Hitting, and yes I admit even the fighting. I don't miss the holding and hooking and crosschecking in front of the net that sometimes was called and sometimes wasn't. I think the #1 reason and all the previous points are part of this for sure ... but the number one reason the Carolina Hurricanes are in doing so well.. the one thing that if you took all the other ones away would still have a HUGE impact is Coaching. We have the Best Coach in the NHL here in Carolina right now. I saw him do an excellent job in NY and I remember thinking when we were watching Maurice here that a coach like Laviolette is exactly what we need here in Carolina. It wasnt 7-2 as I predicted, (I don't ever get the score) but a 4-1 beating of the hated Devils is a nice pre-Christmas Present. The Hurricanes have outscored the Devils 10-2 in the last 2 matchups. It looks like its not much of a rivalry anymore...the Devils just cannot compete. This starts off the home stand at a nice 3-0 with the next game a critical matchup with the Lightning on tuesday. Playing like the Hurricanes did in the 3rd makes me think we are looking at a home winning streak that will out do the earlier one this year. Scoring Summary: Congratulations to Chad Larose for scoring his first NHL Goal. Staal added to it 20 seconds later to nail the coffin shut on the once mighty devils. Brind'Amour added to his point streak, and Erik Cole tallied a nice one for the CSS Line. The CSS Line is back: Cole 2 pts, Stillman 3 points, Staal 2 points.

Columbus Coach Gallant said it best: "They're playing as a team, that's why they're winning, that's why they're leading their division,... ``They deserved the win, with a good goalie and good defense.'' I remember at one point in the game seeing Brindy get pissed off at Jody (45) and I just knew from that point on that he was going to have a great game. The whole team played well even in the 1st period where there was no scoring they were putting a lot of shots on net. The crowd last night was pretty weak..I guess many people aren't sure where Columbus is or even what the blue jackets are.... I expect a big crowd Saturday as New Jersey has always been a hated team in this area going back to the days of Keith prime (glad he's gone) and Scott Stevens Knocking the Crap out of Ron Francis in the Playoff Series some years ago. As predicted a victory, it didn't happen in overtime but I'll take a come from behind win with 5 goals especially since the Canes were down 2-1 at one point. Cullen scores 2 in the victory. For the 2nd night in a row the Hurricanes down 2 goals at that start of the game. I'm no mathematician but that does increase the odds against the Hurricanes. The Stars are playing well. Winning 10 of their last 12 games. Carolina is coming off of a nice win over Atlanta, and has had plenty of rest and relaxation while awaiting tonight's game. Staal as usual will have an impact tonight I look for a goal and 2 assists from him. Will we see Whitney tonight? I hope so he seems to create a lot of plays when he is on the ice. Justin Williams has really stepped it up lately scoring 6 goals and 7 assists in November. He seems to just get better as the season moves on. Who will be the first to score on Marty Turco who has 10 victories and was named the defensive player of the month? I say it will be...staal. This should be a great game, a nice late start means I can watch the entire game without interruptions. Saturdays Game Vs. Phoenix is a cool bars game.. I think I may head there. Who Else is going? Games 24 Goals 18 Assists 18 Total Points 36 Eric Staal is off to the best start of any Carolina Hurricanes player since the Franchise moved to Carolina. I have said before that I am not a Stat freak but I cannot remember any player having 18 goals at this point in the season since I began making the Trek to Greensboro to watch the Hurricanes play in their first season here. Staal Leads the Hurricanes in Goals and thus Points and Plus/Minus. He is 4th in the NHL for Goals, and 8th for total points. I think this is only the beginning. We are in the Early Stages of a Gretzky or Lemieux like Career right now with Eric Staal. I can only sit back and enjoy the show. HHFAN

I know there was a big deal made last year,oops I mean the year before about the new quick face off and how it speeds up the game etc.. As far as cutting back on total time of the games. I have to admit that at first I thought "cool, I can get home sooner" And Last year ... I mean the year before last... I went to maybe 20 games. And something was missing, besides wins I mean. (that was not a great year for the Hurricanes) This year I found myself with more time to go to games and I realized something: The Quick Faceoff in the NHL Sucks. I keep thinking back to the excitement in the building and even in Greensboro, in the past years, and the music and the buildup between plays was a big part of the hockey experience and a HUGE part of bringing the fans into the games. The arena's could really play a part in the game in the old days. Some locations had the old organ sounds, others such as here it was all music and energy pounding bass and music before each faceoff and in between plays. Sometimes it would help raise up the crowds energy level so high it got tough to keep it going. The Arena techs were skillful at balancing the adrenalin of the audience, and its definitely a skill our people in Raleigh learned well. The Carolina Hurricanes Stadium in the Playoffs was a very very tough place for other teams. I miss the excitement of games with the music and the noise and peaking of that excitement. The Playoffs were of course THE BEST There were loud, full crowds, and music to get the adrenalin flowing. I know that the NHL would like to make fans happy , "Thank you fans" and all that good stuff. How about loosening up the quick faceoff deal?... Bring back the long waits for the fans. We liked the loud music and the few extra seconds to get into the game and cheer as loud as we can yell. HHFAN

Justin Williams had a good game, A Great Goal by Ladd as he starts a points streak up now officcially with a 2 game point streak. Aaron Ward had a long one from the face off circle. Other than that the game was all atlanta as Ilya,and other combined to once again make our team look silly. It was rollercoaster like... sometimes the Hurricanes had it going on, in sync passing crisp and other times...well they looked like they were scrambling around... going 0 for 6 on the powerplay did not help. Missed Open nets were also seen. Not a Good night. On the bright side I got some Great Club level tickets and had a great view of the loss... The Carolina Hurricanes go to atlanta next in the 2nd Part of the HOme and Home... I will miss this game while I attend the Illini UNC game on that night. Tuesday also is the first of a long road trip. The next home game is on Dec. 13. I will be there. Go Canes.

Tonight he scored the game winner in a Shootout to help the Hurricanes do a little Fall Leaf Burning. (Vrbata also helped out there) In a team effort and one hell of a game the Hurricanes have once again proved why they will win the Stanley Cup this Year. Impressive performances by Eric Staal: Once again an unassisted goal and Shorthanded.... Staal is more impressive every game. My view from 8 rows up from the Ice Last night: It wasn't a win, but I was impressed with the Hurricanes Last night. They went down 2 goals early and battled back right away to keep the gaming close. Staal scored a goal that was amazing I hope there are some replays of it out there... I tried to record the game but it was blacked out...The channel ended up having some crappy college basketball game on instead. To put this in perspective: The Hurricanes are playing without key members of the team. Brind'Amour, Wesley, Wallin, Whitney, just to name a few. Yet they still managed to keep up with highly skilled Ottawa team. Brindy's loss was felt heavily on special teams on Power play and Penalty Kill. 8 goals tonight by the Carolina Hurricanes. 5 GOALS in the 3rd Period!!!!!! I know my prediciton was wrong but hey I'm Happy to be half right tonight . I have to admit I wouldn't have predicted an 8-6 victory... but who would? What a game. It looked like Staa l got a Hat Trick tonight but it did not get officially scored that way. We will see how that plays out tommorow. I can't wait until tommorow's game. Another certain victory over the once great Pens captained by Super Mario. This is a team that fights every minute of every game. I believe this is the 3rd come back victory in a row and this is the 5th home game victory in a row. A new record. The beggining of this homestand saw a lot of people speculating on losses since the Hurricanes were playing Ottawa (previously undefeated), Boston (tough team) and the hated Flyers (star packed tough team). Surprise ! The Carolina Hurricanes win all 3. I hope to have some pics and video here tommorow. It is a sweet victory. Those that have been following hockey here know that the hated Flyers games are always intense... 8 goals tonight by the Hurricanes.... WOW!
